The Good Acre

The Good Acre (affectionately known as TGA by their wonderfully active community) is a non-profit organization who connects & strengthens farmers & food makers through good food. Started by the Pohlad family of Minnesota, TGA is a multi-faceted initiative to support a sustainable — and local — food system, to celebrate diversity and independent farmers, and to increase access to healthy produce for all consumers regardless of income. See their new brand video here, and make sure to keep watching past the break for more info on the video campaign we produced for TGA in 2020!

A lot of things changed in 2020, and we were able to pivot to create a series of videos that both prioritized new TGA programs and also advertised some of their existing offerings. Over the course of the year, White Pine Productions and associates filmed a few days during each month of TGA’s most active season — spring planting through late summer harvest. By spreading out our production, we were able to capture many different moments and to create 7 videos in addition to their new brand overview video above.

Harvest of the month Series

Farm-to-School Recipes you can make at home! Before Covid-19, TGA’s Farm to School Program engaged students and parents alike in education around fresh, seasonal produce. Chef Lachelle Cunningham adapted these program ideals with a series of videos — creating simple and tasty after-school snacks, using the harvest of the month! This is the first of 3 videos from that series.

Functioning like an upgraded C.S.A. (community-supported agriculture), TGA’s farm share program sources seasonal produce from dozens of local farmers. This model increases financial stability for their partner farms and also diversifies the produce that shows up in your box each week! Jacob was actually introduced to TGA as a member supporter of their farm share program in 2019!

TGA takes a holistic approach to solving critical gaps in the regional food system. They realized that one key barrier schools face in implementing their farm-to-school programs is a shortage of staffing trained in scratch cooking. Through their new vocational training program, TGA aims to address this shortage of trained chefs and help create and foster a workforce who will thrive in a kitchen filled with fresh and seasonal produce!

Local Emergency Assistance farmer fund

When the Coronavirus pandemic struck, the local food system was interrupted basically overnight. TGA partnered with hunger relief organizations and others to respond to the crisis with their LEAFF program. LEAFF is a guarantee to local Black, Indigenous, and POC farmers to purchase their produce at an actual fair market price. Originally organized as an emergency response, this program is continuing to grow into the future!
